My Story... My Heart...

This is my story...

When I was two, my mom took me to get a regular well-check! When my pediatrician listened to my heart, she said, "wow" that is really slow." "We had better get that checked out". We were sent upstairs on the elevator to have an EKG. Wires were then place all over my chest so they could listen to my heart.
Immediately after the reading they informed my mom that we would need to go to Primary Children's Hospital for further testing. My mom was very scared and nervous and shed a lot of tears. I didn't know what was going on.
My mom informed my dad all about it and the next day we had an appointment in Salt Lake. More wires and doctors to find out what was happening. Second Degree Heart Block was diagnosed, which would mean more testing in the years to come and pacemaker when the time was right.
June 14th 2010 was determined to be the day! Mom, Dad and I had to check in at 10 am, in the same place that we got to have a tour a week earlier. I was very excited and couldn't wait for my surgery, which was still an hour and a half away. We waited in the waiting room for the doctor to come in and talk to us and mom let me take some pictures.
I picked watermelon for the yummy smell to help me sleep. It didn't take very long for me to fall asleep and for the surgery to be over, but my mom informed me that it was actually 3 hours. They wondered the halls, ate at the cafeteria, and sat out on the patio in the nice warm sunshine.
Mom and Dad got a page to let them know I was done with everything and to meet me back at the operating room to talk to the doctor. He said everything couldn't have been more perfect. It all went well! I recovered quickly and got to eat anything I wanted off the menu... root beer slushies, pizza, brownies, corn dog, french fries, scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, Oreo shakes, rice krispie treats, beef jerky and the list goes on and on! I enjoyed myself with all the ordering off the menu.
I stayed one night in the hospital with wonderful nurses and the doctor was great! The next day they woke me up early for x-rays, another test for the pacemaker and then they released me to go home! It hurt a lot, but it was fun. This is going to be a lifelong journey! A new experience!

Love, Logan
